Meeting Point – Storm King Dam Campground (for Carpooling)

Walk distance: 7.5km. Elevation (less than) 459m

Grade: M44

What to bring:

All walkers should carry a personal first aid kit with snake bite bandages x2 

Water 2-3 litres 

Sturdy footwear boots/hiking shoes.

Long sleeve shirt & pants, hat, sunscreen. (A lot of the track is in open country)

Personal medication as needed.

Lunch an option.

Terrain: All going to plan we will drop cars at the Girraween day use area and car shuffle around to the Mt Norman day use area carpark. The walk rises gently along open tracks and interesting moss & fern-filled gullies before reaching the granite slopes for a steep but manageable ascent to the podium upon which the summit rocks rest. To summit the very top of Mt. Norman involves some chimneying so is unlikely we shall attempt this, but there are plenty of interesting granite intersections to look at.
Passing the aligned rocks of the “Eye of the Needle”, we descend steeply (also on granite) and cross a few creek lines (if flowing) then wander through stands of Wallangara White Gum native to the region and marvel at the exposed granite formations as we work our way downhill back to the main day use area and our cars.
Due to the exposed granite, this walk won’t proceed if the weather is likely to be wet.
