Glasshouse Mountains Weekend

Meeting Place: I am not proposing to have a meeting place. Make your own way to Coochin Creek campground. You may want to come on the Friday, or alternatively come as early as possible on Saturday morning.

Travel distance and time: About 200 kms and 2 and a half hours

Walk distance and estimated time: The walks that I propose to do this weekend include: 

1. Mt Ngungun: 2.8kms return and 1.5 to 2 hours

2. Mt Beerburrum: 3.5kms return and 1.5 to 2 hrs

3. Tibrogagan Circuit: 4.1kms and 1.5 to 2 hrs

4. Trachyte Circuit: 5.7kms 2 to 3 hrs

I have not included Mt Tibrogagan or Mt Beerwah as they difficult and steep climbs that are not suited to all participants.

Walk ratings: 

1. Mt Ngungun: S33 This walk is considered relatively easy with a steady climb along a well-worn footpad, so suitable for beginners. Great views of the surrounding peaks.

2. Mt Berrburrum: S53 The first kilometre is fairly flat, but the last 15 minutes or so is up a steep paved track, therefore requiring some reasonable fitness. Great views again of the surrounding countryside. 

3.Tibrogagan Circuit: S33 Described as a "family friendly" walk, this track circumnavigates Mt Tibrogagan, providing a range of perspectives of this impressive peak.

4. Trachyte Circuit: S44 Described as a moderately challenging walk, this circuit traverses through open woodlands, heathlands, with glimpses of riparian rainforest and panoramic views from Jack Ferris Lookout.

General Information: We will be camping in Beerburrum and Beerwah State Forest at the Coochin Creek campground. At the time of writing, there are 10 caravan/camper trailer sites and 4 tent sites available. If you are intending to participate, I would urge you to book a site as soon as possible as they will disappear very quickly. Book through Qld National Parks website under campground name Coochin Creek. (See the attached Document 1 for Detailed camp site descriptions).

Kayaking is also an attractive alternative as there is access to Pumicestone Passage via Coochin Creek.
