Overview:

Allora Mountain is one of the Darling Downs underrated little gems — a compact reserve with big views, fascinating geology, and a surprising amount of biodiversity. Tucked just off the New England Highway on the Toowoomba side of Allora, it’s the kind of place you might drive past for years without realising how much beauty is waiting just a few minutes from the road.

You’ll be treated to grass trees, wattles, and seasonal wildflowers as you make your way up paths perfectly lined with long grass towards unparallel views of the small-town famous as the birthplace of PL Travers, author of the much-loved Mary Poppins books.

You’ll likely make a few new friends on your journey with fairy‑wrens, honeyeaters, quail‑thrush, and the occasional wallaby or basking lizard calling this reserve home.

The reserve contains several Scar Trees, created when First Nations People removed bark for cultural purposes. We’ll view one of the accessible examples and take a moment to acknowledge its significance, keeping a respectful distance.
