General Information:
Yuraygir National Park is situated south of Yamba on the central NSW coast. https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/visit-a-park/parks/yuraygir-national-park
The quickest way to drive there is via the Logan Motorway & the Pacific Highway, but some prefer to take a quieter inland route which takes about half an hour longer.
The plan is for the pack walkers to assemble in the park at the end of The Cresent in Angourie for lunch before commencing our walk. The local coffee shop on the other side of the street on the way into town is sometimes closed, but I’ll check on this closer to the event. Update : – 'The Bay Street Local' is open from 7am to 2pm daily (it's on the corner of The Cresent)
The 6km walk into our campsite at Shelly Head Beach is along well-made trails. The surface varies from sandy inland track, to boardwalk, to gravel, to beach walking. It’s never too difficult & the stunning coastal scenery is reason enough to take it slowly.
Jason has been proactive & booked campsites for 12 of us here at Shelly Head. If more people than this register for the walk, then at this stage more sites are available. There is no need to book your own site as I will sort this out. The cost will be negligible.
This is a fantastic spot to camp for 2 nights. Facilities here include picnic tables & a new toilet. Campfires are not allowed. There is flowing fresh water nearby, but it is stained by Teatree. Most people prefer to treat it before drinking. There is also a different waist deep pool of brackish water nearby to wash your body in.
Previously, I have spent days here exploring rock pools, sea caves & terraces of rock slabs. The local flora & fauna will often surprise you. For those who would like some more walking on Sunday then there is an option to continue south to Lake Arragan, or part thereof, via the beach or the parallel inland walking track, depending on the tide or your preference. The base campers could head north from Lake Arragan to join us.
Monday morning will see us make a leisurely start to return to our cars via the same route. I’d envisage us hitting Yamba in time for lunch before heading home.
Please register separately on Member Jungle for either the pack walk or the base camp.
I encourage you to utilize Member Jungle Chat to help car-pool etc.
